What is AAUW?
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has a rich history in working for the growth and advancement of women and girls. Any person holding an associate or equivalent, bachelor or higher degree from a qualified education institution is eligible for AAUW membership.
Founded in 1881 by 17 university alumni, the organization has 100,000 college graduates across the United States. AAUW Kentucky has seven branches and nine college/university partners. Morehead has recently established its own AAUW branch, Cave Run Branch, and Morehead State University has joined AAUW as a university partner.
AAUW advances equality for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Each year, AAUW provides millions of dollars in fellowships and grants to outstanding young women for community action projects. Space Trek is one aspect of our various programs.
AAUW funds research for women, girls and education. AAUW provides financial assistance and support for those seeking justice for gender and pay discrimination.
For 130 years, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day – education, social, economic and political. Our commitment to our mission is reflected in all aspects of our work.
